The Pokémon Company announced today that a brand-new Pokémon RPG is set to be released later this year for the Nintendo DS. The original press release, along with Junichi Masuda's Blog entry on the announcement, have now both been translated by Bulbagarden webmaster Archaic. Given the mention of new Pokémon being included, and the statements that these games will be an "inventive rebirth" of the series and that the staff are "doing their best to exceed every Pokémon game before now", it would now appear that this is indeed an announcement for a fifth generation of main series games as was first speculated. This would be an interesting turn for the series to take, as two generations have never shared the primary console; while Generation II could be played on a regular Game Boy, it was designed with the Game Boy Color in mind.

The February 2010 edition of CoroCoro, due out in only a few weeks, is set to reveal a "surprising announcement", which will be related to this game, as well as the upcoming Pokémon movie, Phantom Ruler Z. In addition, we now know that the episode of Pokémon Sunday to be broadcast on February 7th will include an appearance from Junichi Masada himself, though no specific details have been released about what may be released here as of yet. With no Generation V Pokémon yet revealed, this would make for the shortest amount of time between the revelation of a brand-new Pokémon and its debut in the main series should these games be Generation V.

It's a good thing I didn't got HG/SS yet but in the meantime when more and more info release about that game, I may able to get it one day but I'll have to get a new DS though.

I thought they really out-did themselves with the whole 4th gen (including HG/SS). They had some really fun gameplay. I am interested to see what they can possibly pull out for the 5th gen that will better it. I am really hoping for a more functional Wi-Fi system, preferably one that doesn't focus entirely on friend codes. It would be great to go into a Wi-Fi room and see people all around the world without their friend codes, then battle/trade them.

It would open up SO much more competition in competitive battling, and would be much better for trading.

New Pokemon has always meant a new generation, so I can't really see how this can't be a 5th gen, unless they are only creating a handful of new Pokemon that are evos/prevos of existing Pokemon, and just hurling them into the game.

Even more interesting... what will the 500th Pokemon be? O_o

My god. Can't they stop, and keep the legacy of Pokemon forever? No, I guess they have to keep making money. This is the exact same thing that has happened with Halo and Call of Duty. People just can't make good games any more, they have to make sequels.

I don't mind more generations. The more there is, the more they can do with the games. I am already quite tired of the existing 493 Pokemon, and am itching for another hundred or so to collect and mess around with. Really, I'd be happy if they made it to 1000.

Only one thing's for certain. If it is a new gen, the 500th Pokemon will be the water starter's second form, assuming they're not changing the tradition of the last generations.

And I'm with masquerein on the more gens = better thing. Every single generation thus far has significantly improved the generation before them. Besides, I'm bored of Sinnoh/Kanto/Johto regioins now, bring on the new island(s).

Besides, they haven't created a proper tiger pokemon yet. They simply can't give up until they do <<

Umm....I don't think I have any ideas of new attacks at the moment..but anyway..

Would there be a new weather? (I don't know, I think windy could be one or fog to shift Castform changes)

What could be the 2 new Eevee evo types? (Assuming if that going to exist and it comes in 2 like it does in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen)

I say Ghost and Rock Eevee for my prediction.

I think more eeveelutions is an expectation at this point, to be honest "/ However, I'd actually enjoy seeing an evo for certain 4th gens (what, I liked chatot), but evos for first gens that didn't previous have one (or prevos, for that matter) would be awesome I mean, how many people have made fakemon evos/prevos for lapras?

A new weather condition would be awesome, and new castgorm would be great too Wouldn't excessively surprise me to see a new rotom possibly too.

I'm not quite tired of sinnoh, and didn't have enough time to get sick of Hoenn...I lost my game when I didn't even own emerald for a year D:

If there sis new Eeveelutions, which I don't think there will be (No new Eevee's in Hoenn after all), then one will be a Dragon type, as that's the only powerhouse type that hasn't been made as of yet. I'm also putting some money on a Steel Eeveelution, but not a lot.

I personally want to see more alternative evolutions like Gallade and Froslass. Maybe another evo for Clamperl. New region, there'll be new stuff the could make it evolve. Also, some normal trade evolution pokemon would be good, like the classic Graveler/Golem trade-evolution.

And back in the days of Kanto I always considered Jynx, Pinsir, Magmar and Electibuzz to be in the same group. Since then, only two of them have gotten full families. A new evo for Jynx and a full family for Pinsir would be great.

So technically, there may be a greater legend than Arceus itself. That would be something everyone would like to see.

I guess I would do, but I think that the concepts and names are just horrible. I mean, the fact that they added so many new evolutions...it's irritating, and I can't keep track of them. I don't know the difference in types between Gallade and Gardevoir, for example. I just think that they should stop, but it's not as easy as it is with Halo/CoD for sure, because Pokemon is a franchise.

Oh, and I also lack/and am too lazy to get myself a DS. So I just play LeafGreen, Crystal, and Emerald (the best) on my GBA SP.

I reckon that scyther will get a pre evo as well as weezing getting an evo, also i wonder how many legends there will be seeing as how there is always more in each gen. Personally i'm looking forward to a fifth generation

There was no Eevee's in the 3rd gen.

Probably 6th generation won't have one if it goes by multiples of 3. Yeah, I forgot about 3rd gen but I guess it never hurts to be right once 5th gen reveals.

Not that I wanna place any bets down plus the type I'm guessing.
